schee theme – Handbook
Welcome! The schee theme is made for stores with a small, carefully curated catalog: clear, fast and easy to use on a phone with one hand. This handbook shows you how to set it up – step by step, no code needed.
By the way: schee is the Bavarian word for "beautiful". That's exactly what the theme stands for – truly beautiful, great stores.

The idea: dock, label, stage
You can recognise every schee store by three things – even without a logo:
- The dock: a bar at the bottom, right where your thumb is – the one control of the store. On every page it shows what matters there: menu and search, filters on collections, "Add to cart" on product pages, total and "Check out" in the cart. Everything that opens slides up as a sheet from the bottom.
- The label: price, unit price, deposit, tax note, stock and delivery date as a designed price tag – on cards, on the product page and in the dock. Plus the fact sheet with all product details.
- The stage: Small catalogs don't need a department-store grid. Products appear one by one and large; the home page can open with your products right away.
1. Getting started
- Install the theme: In your Shopify admin go to Online Store → Themes and add schee.
- Choose a style: Pick one of the three styles (see below). You can change it at any time.
- Customize: Click Customize. On the left you see the sections of the page, on the right the preview. At the top you switch between home page, product page, collection and cart.
- Logo and colours: Upload your logo in the header. Colours, fonts and the structure (label, dock, collection view, menu) are under Theme settings (gear icon at the bottom left).
- Publish when everything looks right.
2. The three styles
Each style has its own structure – not just its own colours.
| Style | Label | Collection | Dock | Mobile menu | Works for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| schee – clear, friendly, blue | Ticket with notches | Stage: one large product per row | Floating pill | Tiles with image | Coffee, cosmetics, food – recommended start |
| Leinen – warm, serif type, nearly square | Hang tag with item number | Catalog: image and details side by side | Bar along the edge | Numbered index | Ceramics, textiles, wood, crafts |
| Kiosk – yellow and black, bold, square | Price sticker with discount burst | Grid, two columns on phones | Block with hard shadow | Big word list | Streetwear, drinks, zines |
You can switch every building block separately under Theme settings → Structure – for example, combine the hang tag with the stage.
Each style comes with six matching colour schemes: Standard, Surface, Soft, Deep, Salbei (green) and Nacht (dark with gold). Every section has a "Colour scheme" option – variety without visual noise. For an all-green or all-dark store, copy the colours of Salbei or Nacht into Standard. All combinations meet WCAG AA contrast.
3. Theme settings
| Area | What you set |
|---|---|
| Colours | the six colour schemes |
| Typography | headings and body text (Shopify font library) |
| Layout | page width, product image format (portrait 4:5, square or landscape 4:3 – applies everywhere), corners of cards and buttons, pill-shaped buttons |
| Structure | label (ticket, hang tag, price sticker), item number on the label, label on product cards (on or below the image), show collections as (stage, catalog, grid), dock (pill, bar, block), mobile menu (list, tiles, index, word list), page transitions |
| Product | "Only X left" threshold, delivery date (cut-off, business days, Saturday, days without shipping), buying in the dock |
| Cart | cart sheet or cart page, free shipping threshold, shipping cost, "Goes well with", discount field, express checkout, payment row, order note |
| Search | popular products shown in the empty search field |
| Social media | links to Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube |
| Name & favicon | "Store name" replaces your shop name everywhere in the store; favicon = small icon in the browser tab |
Tip: Use [threshold] in texts to insert your free shipping threshold – for example in the announcement bar: "Free shipping over [threshold]". When the threshold changes, all texts follow. Without a threshold, such texts are hidden.
4. The dock
The dock sits at the bottom of every page – full width on phones, floating in the middle on desktop.
- Everywhere: menu, search and cart (with count). On desktop the menu sits in the header and the dock shows a search field.
- Collection and search: plus "Filter" with the number of active filters. The filter sheet lists all filters and sorting; at the bottom the dock shows "Reset" and "X products".
- Product page: "Add to cart" is always in the dock. Once the label has scrolled up out of view, the price with unit price takes the place of menu and search. On phones the button therefore doesn't repeat inside the form; subscription options, product options and express checkout stay there.
- Cart: the cart slides up as a sheet; the dock shows the total and "Check out". On the cart page, total and "Check out" stay in the dock on phones.
- Way to free shipping: a thin line at the top of the dock fills up with every item.
- Search: the search field sits at the bottom, above the keyboard; suggestions and results grow upwards.
Choose the dock's shape under Theme settings → Structure → Dock.
5. The label and the fact sheet
The label
Every price sits in a label: price, compare-at price, unit price (with quantity, e.g. "250 g · €39.60 / kg"), deposit, and on the product page the tax note, stock and delivery date. On product cards it sits on the image or below it (setting); in the catalog view it sits next to the image.
- Unit prices: Set a unit price for a variant (product → variant → "Show unit price") and the theme shows it everywhere – cards, product page, dock, search and cart. For "from X" prices, the cheapest variant's unit price applies.
- Deposit: Create a product or variant metafield schee.pfand of type Money and enter the amount. The label shows "+ €0.25 deposit" separately; the unit price refers to the price without deposit, as required.
- Item number: With "Item number on the label", the variant SKU appears as "No. …" above the price – lovely for makers with catalog numbers.
- Discount: The price sticker (Kiosk style) shows the discount as a burst whenever a compare-at price is set.
- The label does the maths: For products in several sizes, "Compare sizes" in the label opens a small table with price and unit price per size; the best value per unit is marked, with the saving in percent. With the product metafields schee.portion_menge (decimal: amount per serving in the unit of the quantity, e.g. 15 for coffee in grams) and schee.portion_name (e.g. "cup") it also shows the price per serving: "≈ €0.59 per cup". Switch off under Structure → "Label does the maths".
The fact sheet
The Fact sheet block on the product page lists product details in order instead of in running text.
- Your own rows: up to six, each with label and value. Connect the value to a product metafield via the "Dynamic source" icon (Settings → Custom data → Products) and every product shows its own detail. Empty rows are hidden.
- Legal tag: each row can show its legal basis – FIC/LMIV (food), GPSR (product safety) or Textile.
- Manufacturer and safety (GPSR): Since December 2024, online offers in the EU must name the manufacturer and safety information. Add them per product in the metafields schee.hersteller and schee.sicherheit (multi-line text). If you make your own products, the fact sheet can use the name, address and email from Settings → Store details. For food, set the legal basis to LMIV – the row is then called "Food business operator".
6. Home page and sections
Sections: Hero, Featured collection, Featured product, Collection list, Image with text, Testimonials, Promo banner, USP bar, FAQ, Newsletter, Blog posts, Video, Rich text, Contact form, Recently viewed, Apps, Custom Liquid.
- Shop window: In "Featured collection" under "Display", choose Shop window – large products to swipe through, each with its label and a line of text. As the first section on a page, its heading is the main heading, so your home page can start with your products. Other displays: grid, slider, catalog.
- Collection list: tiles, shelf (rows with image and count), index (roman numerals with a dotted line to the count) or word list (big words).
- Hero: side by side, full-width image or edge-to-edge. New: heading on a colour block and the block Product label – the price and unit price of one product right in the hero, linked.
- Announcement bar: one after another or as a marquee. The marquee pauses on hover, focus and via its button, and stands still with "reduce motion".
- Video: loads only when someone taps "Play" – YouTube and Vimeo receive no data before that.
- Pages like "About us": all sections work on regular pages; the "about" template is included.
Header: logo and menu (up to three levels) on desktop, with a mega menu from four sub-items or via a "Mega menu" block. On phones the header only shows logo and account – the dock opens the menu as a sheet. Choose how its top level looks under Structure → Mobile menu: list, tiles with collection image, index or word list.
Footer: newsletter with optional discount code, up to four columns (menu or text), social icons, country and language selectors, payment icons, policies and the withdrawal button.
7. Product page
The product page is built from blocks you arrange freely: title, rating, price (the label), variant picker, buy buttons, fact sheet, description, trust bar, bundle hint, collapsible tabs, nutrition (app), text, Custom Liquid and app blocks.
- Stock and delivery date sit at the foot of the label: "Order by 2 pm and it arrives on Thu, 2 October." – without weekends and public holidays (Germany, Austria), with ranges, Saturday and closing days (Theme settings → Product).
- Collapsible tabs are edited in the editor; with a metafield as dynamic source, every product gets its own text.
- Colour swatches from Shopify's category metafields, full-screen images with zoom, gallery with thumbnails.
- Browse like a catalog: At the top of the product info, a bar shows the previous and next product of the collection the customer came from ("3 of 12 · Coffee"). Tap, swipe across the bar or use the arrow keys on desktop – customers browse your range without going back to the list. Can be switched off in the "Product page" section.
- Page transition: tap a product in a list and its image glides into place on the product page (can be switched off under Structure). Browsers without support load the page as usual.
- B2B and wholesale: quantity rules and volume pricing from your B2B catalogs.
- Required options (schee product options): if a product needs an input, quick add on cards leads to the product page.
- Combined listings and products with more than 250 variants work.
Badges: "Sold out" and "Save X" appear automatically; your own text via the tag badge:Your text. Line on cards: in stage and catalog views, the Subtitle metafield (descriptors.subtitle) appears under the name – otherwise the start of the description.
8. Collections, filters and search
- View: stage, catalog or grid – for all collections under Structure, per collection in the section. On desktop the stage becomes catalog spreads: a large image with label and a paragraph beside it, alternating sides. Customers switch between "One by one" and "Overview" at the top right; the browser remembers their choice.
- Back to the same spot: Open a product and go back (swipe back on phones) and you land exactly where you were – including products loaded with "Show more" and the position in the shop window.
- Filters come from the free Search & Discovery app. They appear as chips above the products and together in the filter sheet (dock → Filter).
- Category chips: a menu with links to sub-collections, selected in the "Collection" section.
- Collection image, breadcrumbs, "minimal" template as before in the "Collection" section.
- Predictive search: suggestions, products (with label), collections and pages while typing. The empty field shows popular products (Theme settings → Search).
9. Cart and checkout
- Cart sheet with the way to free shipping, product images, quantity changes, "Goes well with", discount code and express checkout (PayPal, Apple Pay & co.). Total and "Check out" are in the dock.
- Gap filler: If the cart is just short of free shipping, it suggests the cheapest product that closes the gap ("Add this for free shipping") – preferably one that goes into the cart with a single tap. Choose the source collection under Theme settings → Cart (e.g. small items like pins or filters); empty = all products.
- Discount codes in sheet and cart page, can be switched off under Theme settings → Cart.
- Shipping cost in the cart: from your standard shipping cost (or from the schee app).
- Checkout: style it under Settings → Checkout → Customize – matching values per style in the appendix.
10. Legal (Germany/EU)
- Policies under Settings → Policies – the theme links them in the footer, the imprint first.
- "plus shipping" in the label opens your shipping policy in a window.
- Unit price and deposit appear in every label (section 5).
- Manufacturer and safety information (GPSR) and food information (FIC/LMIV) in the fact sheet (section 5).
- Withdrawal button (§ 356a BGB): mandatory since 19 June 2026. Create a page "Withdraw from contract" with the widerruf template and select it in the footer. Shopify sends no automatic confirmation – reply to every withdrawal promptly by email. With the schee: Shop Modules app, its withdrawal button handles this completely.
- Prices on product cards: the footer says "All prices incl. VAT, plus shipping", covering collections, search and home.
- Accessibility (EAA/BFSG): the theme is built for accessibility (see FAQ). Link your accessibility statement in the footer if the EAA applies to you.
11. With the schee: Shop Modules app
The theme works fully without the app. With schee: Shop Modules everything fits seamlessly: the modules use the theme's colours, fonts and corners and slot into fixed places – wishlist with hearts on cards and in the dock, benefits below the price, stock & delivery time inside the label, trust & payment, product options, "Frequently bought together", cart progress in the cart sheet, quick view, announcement bar, withdrawal button, size chart, recently viewed, reviews, nutrition & ingredients and gift options.
When a module runs, the theme hides its own version automatically. If you use the app's sticky buy bar, the dock on product pages shows only menu and search and moves above the bar – there are never two buy buttons.
Shipping data in one place: Once you've saved "Shipping & returns" in the app, the theme uses it – free shipping threshold (also for [threshold] and the dock line), cut-off, shipping days and delivery times, and the key facts in the shipping window.
Module appearance: In schee the modules fit automatically; adjust them in the app under Design. Switching themes: preparing an unpublished theme? Select it in the app under "Your theme".
12. FAQ
How do I change the style later? Under Theme settings → Structure you switch label, dock, collection view and menu separately; colours and fonts are under their own settings. To adopt another style completely, add the theme again with that style.
Can I turn off the dock? No – the dock is the theme's control (menu, search, cart). Choose its shape under Structure. "Buy in the dock" can be switched off under Theme settings → Product; the buy button then stays in the form.
How do I add a deposit? Settings → Custom data → Products (or Variants) → Add definition: namespace and key schee.pfand, type Money. Then enter the amount on the product.
Why don't I see any filters? Filters come from Search & Discovery. Install it and set up filters under Online Store → Navigation → Filters.
Why is "Goes well with" empty? Add complementary products in Search & Discovery. Without them, the theme shows related products.
Installments and "Follow on Shop" don't appear. Both require Shop Pay. Enable it under Settings → Payments.
Where do I change texts like "Add to cart"? Online Store → Themes → … → Edit default theme content – all texts in English and German.
How do I show reviews? Easiest with the Reviews module of the schee app (Pro). With another review app, the stars read Shopify's standard metafields reviews.rating and reviews.rating_count; add full reviews as an app block in the "Reviews" section.
What do I need to know about my own reviews? Only tick "Verified purchase" if you can prove the purchase, and use "Authenticity note" to say whether and how you check reviews. Please only use real, current numbers in star texts.
How do I choose which part of an image stays visible? With the image's focal point ("Edit focal point" in the editor or under Content → Files).
Can I add my own code? Yes: the Custom Liquid section and block accept HTML, Liquid and app code.
Is the theme fast? Yes. No framework, very little JavaScript, images in the right size and only when needed. Page transitions run in the browser without extra JavaScript.
Is the theme accessible? It's built for it: fully keyboard operable, tap targets of at least 48 px, WCAG AA contrast in every style and colour scheme. The dock is a labelled navigation, sheets keep focus, screen readers hear new result counts and prices when variants change, and the marquee can be paused. Remember alt text for your own images.
How do I get help? Via the form at schee.app/theme/support. We reply within two business days.
